About this project

Losing count of rakaat during prayer is a common challenge among Muslims, with our field survey indicating that nearly 60% of worshippers occasionally experience difficulty maintaining their prayer count. This may arise from fatigue, distractions, or cognitive challenges associated with attention and memory. SOMO (Solat Monitor) is a wearable prayer-assistance device designed to provide discreet, automatic rakaat tracking without manual interaction. Worn on the wrist, SOMO uses a precision 6-DOF Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) to detect prayer movements and identify key postures, including Qiyam, Ruku’, and Sujud, enabling real-time rakaat counting. Its compact split-pod design incorporates a side-facing OLED display, allowing users to discreetly check their rakaat without significantly disrupting their posture or concentration. SOMO also connects to a smartphone application via Bluetooth, providing Qibla guidance, dzikir counting, and prayer-history tracking. Protected under the Malaysian Copyright Act 1987 through MyIPO, SOMO aims to deliver an accessible technology solution priced below RM150.

SOMO - Solat Monitor is competing at the International Entrepreneurship Convention 2026, 7 and 8 October, Putrajaya.
