About this project

CemNova is concentrating on the development and marketing of eco-slag cement, an alternative type of cement that makes use of industrial blast furnace slag. The project is intended to tackle the environmental problems linked with the production of conventional cement by recycling industrial by-products and decreasing the amount of virgin raw materials that are needed. Eco-slag cement is made by grinding and mixing blast furnace slag with clinker and then carrying out alkali activation with sodium silicate. The product has the potential to cut energy consumption by about 70 to 85 per cent and to reduce CO₂ emissions when compared to ordinary Portland cement (OPC). It also provides several advantages, including high mechanical strength at early stage, stability in aggressive environments, and resistance to high temperatures. CemNova is aiming at cement producers, construction companies, precast concrete manufacturers, pipe makers, brick manufacturers and other companies that produce concrete products. The company will earn income by selling eco-slag cement, licensing its technology and entering into development partnerships. Strategic cooperation with industrial partners, such as cement producers and suppliers of blast furnace slag, will help with both the development and the commercialisation of the product. By combining the use of industrial waste with cement production technology, CemNova hopes to generate extra value from blast furnace slag while at the same time promoting more sustainable practices in the construction industry. The project as a whole shows the potential of eco-slag cement as a more environmentally sound alternative to conventional cement .

Eco-Slag Cement is competing at the International Entrepreneurship Convention 2026, 7 and 8 October, Putrajaya.
