Technologist (Ts.) Mohd Redzuan Affandi Abdul Rahim SMIEEE is currently the Director of Digital Business Department with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). His key responsibility is to drive adoption of digital technologies and digital solutions by businesses in Malaysia. He also oversees the development of the ‘Platform Economy Model’, focusing on the Sharing / Gig Economy models in Malaysia, addressing key enablers which includes policy and regulations, standards development, and governance. On the governance part, he leads the Secretariat of the National Sharing Economy Committee, a national-level governance structure involving multiple ministries and agencies to address challenges and opportunities relating to the Sharing / Gig Economy.
He is a member of a few coordination committees on MSME digitalization in Malaysia. He is the current Vice Chair of the Malaysian Standard (MS) Technical Committee (NSC 03 TC/9) on Sharing Economy in Malaysia. He is a member of the Chair Advisory Group (CAG) of the ISO/TC 324 on Sharing Economy. His experience includes designing and development of the eRezeki programme, which provided the foundation and catalysed the gig economy development in Malaysia. He played instrumental role in scaling up of Digital Freelancing programme in Malaysia, to nurture ‘service-based digital entrepreneurs’ and promoting the notion of ‘high-value gig’ as a future self-employment model.
Redzuan holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Information System from the University of Salford, United Kingdom, and is ITIL certified professional. He is actively involved with professional bodies and is a member of the Internet Society since 2002 and was responsible in formalizing the Internet Society – Malaysia Chapter, where he became the Vice President (2019 – 2020). He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and previously served as an Executive Committee and Secretary of the IEEE Computer Society – Malaysia Chapter.
