Keynote 2: Empowering the Next Wave of Innovators

Dr. Lukman Raimi is an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship and Programme Leader for Business Administration and Entrepreneurship at the School of Business and Economics, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). He is an entrepreneurship educator, a scholar and a public intellectual whose research spans entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship by design, innovation management, entrepreneurial leadership, and entrepreneurial ecosystem development, with a particular focus on how regulatory and institutional frameworks influence innovation, business competitiveness, and sustainable economic development. He holds a Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship and Corporate Social Responsibility from De Montfort University, United Kingdom, and an LL.M. in International Law and Legal Studies from Unicaf University, Zambia.

Dr. Raimi has a large track record of academic publications in leading international Q1 and Q2 journals and has been involved in multidisciplinary research projects in ASEAN, Saudi Arabia, and Africa. His research bridges theory and practice, informing policy debates on entrepreneurship, regulatory reform, innovation, labour markets and the resilience of the economy. Through his research and expertise, he works closely with academics, industry leaders, entrepreneurs and policymakers to promote evidence-based policies that promote inclusive business, institutional development and sustainable economic growth.

Prior to joining UBD, Dr. Raimi served as an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship and Management at the American University of Nigeria (AUN), where he held several academic leadership positions, including Chair of Entrepreneurship, Coordinator of Graduate Programs in the School of Business and Entrepreneurship, Deputy Director of the AUN Center for Entrepreneurship, and a member of both the Faculty Research Committee and the Institutional Review Board (IRB).

An accomplished editor and thought leader, Dr. Raimi serves on the editorial boards of several internationally recognized journals, including the Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship (USA), the International Journal of Ethics and Systems, Emerging Markets Case Studies (UK), the Indonesian Journal of Sustainability Accounting and Management, and the Journal of Green Economy and Low-Carbon Development (Romania). He also serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Business and Economic Analysis at Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

Beyond his academic and editorial contributions, Dr. Raimi is an experienced mentor, startup advisor, and entrepreneurship ecosystem builder. He has mentored entrepreneurs, innovators, and startup founders through internationally recognized entrepreneurship and business development initiatives, including the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), the Founder Institute (USA), Business Mentors for Entrepreneurship Network (BMEN), African Mentorship and Entrepreneurship Network (AMEN), Opolo Innovation Hub (Nigeria), and the African Association of Entrepreneurs (AAE), Ghana. His mentorship focuses on business model innovation, venture creation, investment readiness, entrepreneurial leadership, and sustainable enterprise growth.

Dr. Raimi is a sought-after keynote speaker who has delivered keynote addresses and invited lectures at international conferences, entrepreneurship conventions, executive workshops, and professional forums across Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, United States, Latvia, Laos, Malaysia, Nigeria, Romania, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, and several other countries. He is an active member of leading international professional associations, including the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE), the American Economic Association (AEA), the Southern Management Association (SMA), the International Labour and Employment Relations Association (ILERA), the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), and is a Fellow of the Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals (IIFP).

Through his teaching, research, editorial leadership, mentoring, and policy engagement, Dr. Raimi continues to make significant contributions to entrepreneurship scholarship and practice, fostering innovation ecosystems, strengthening institutional capacity, and advancing sustainable economic development across Asia, Africa, and beyond.
