Panel Discussion 3: Scaling Startups Across ASEAN Markets

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Izzat Fahimuddin Mohamed Suffian (Izzat Suffian) is an Associate Professor at the Organization for Co-Creation Research and Social Contributions, Nagoya Institute of Technology (NITech), Japan, where he works at the intersection of university innovation, entrepreneurship, deep-tech commercialisation and international innovation ecosystem development.

At NITech, he supports faculty-led deep-tech ventures in areas including advanced materials, sensing technologies and electronic wellness, working across technology commercialisation, proof-of-concept development, business planning, market validation, funding, industry engagement and international market development. He also serves as a mentor and advisor to NITech Startup Hub (NaSH), NITech’s official entrepreneurship student society, and represents NITech within the Tongali entrepreneurship and innovation platform.

Dr. Izzat has extensive experience in entrepreneurship education, student startup development and innovation programmes, having delivered lectures, seminars and mentoring programmes involving students, researchers and entrepreneurs across Japan and Malaysia. Prior to joining NITech, he served at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), where he was involved in entrepreneurship education and student innovation development through the Entrepreneurship Development Centre.

He holds a Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical and Analytical Sciences from King’s College London and a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Science from Kobe University, Japan. His professional focus is on connecting research, entrepreneurship and international ecosystems to translate university knowledge into ventures, partnerships and societal impact.
